Welfare and Recreation Committee

Welfare

This sub-committee constitutes one of the important objectives of the OBA.

The OBA is basically a fellowship organization, as the motto suggests. However, where possible, we share occasions of joy and sorrow with members by sending them messages of felicitations or sorrow as the cause may be.

There had been occasions where OBA members had, in their personal capacities, rendered assistance in the form of advice or consultation to fellow members on various matters. This is one of the tangible benefits of networking through organizational membership. There are, as we know, limitations on what an organization like an OBA can offer.

Recreation

Recreational activities such as holiday tours, outings, picnics, parties etc. should form part of our programme. The OBA was registered only in 1961 and the earliest organized holiday for members and their families was at the Methodist Center, Port Dickson in 1964 and several times thereafter. Subsequently holidays and outings had been organized over the years – to Medan, Lake Toba and Brastagi, Indonesia (1986) (the first and only overseas holiday), Cameron Highlands (1968 and 2007), Haadyai and Songkla, Thailand (1991 and another year), Pulau Tioman (1988), Langkawi (1992), Singapore (1993), Pangkor (1994 and another year) and Malacca (2005).

As we all know, organized trips can be implemented only if there is sufficient participation by members, especially if a coach tour is involved, which is always interesting.

These OBA organized tours have probably encouraged some members to plan holidays to various countries on their own and strengthening comradeship amongst themselves.

We hope to organize holiday trips from time to time for members and their families and we hope there will be adequate response from them.
